My path into broadcasting has been anything but conventional. My life has been an odyssey, filled with adventure, horrors and near-death experiences. I have battled demons, danced with the devil and sang with angels along the way. Now it's my time to actualize the potential God blessed me with. My broad spectrum of lived experiences makes me uniquely qualified to tell the stories of the people in my community.
My Father although loving, was a hell raiser, rebel and a criminal. He served his first prison sentence before I was conceived. When I was five-years-old he had a drunk driving incident that crushed my brothers arm and left me trapped inside the wreckage, only to be saved by the jaws of life. When I was 10, I committed my first felony, headed down a path of criminality before I hit puberty. One year later, my dad overdosed on heroin and I went into foster care for the first time.
Foster care is a hell I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. After a year of my Grandma fighting the state, she earned my custody. My dad lived with us, until we were raided by Mariposa Sherrif deputies, and he went back to prison. I was angry, lost and confused and my Grandma would suffer a string of massive strokes which lead to her death, and my second foray into foster care.
This time, I would be sent to a little city I had never heard of before, Lemoore. The family I became a part of wasn't perfect, but they were consistent, good natured folks. I was fourteen and a high school freshmen with a 0.6 GPA when I arrived. I went to summer school every year, played two years of varsity football and graduated on-time with my class by the time it was all said and done.
As a young adult, I had no idea how much of my life story was yet to unfold, but that's a tale for a different day. I'm now 43 years old, with three college degrees and 25 years work experience, and ready to work in the industry I always dreamed of.
